Combining
specialized laser technology and the newest graphic software
our artists etch images with near photographic quality directly
into granite, marble, glass and other substrates. We can laser
etch any image and any design, at any size, directly into
the surface, by actually burning into the substrate. The finished
product is stunning in both classic black & white or full
color. |

How
do you get the color into the Stone?
(top) |
|
 |
| |
Color
enhancement of your etching is created by hand painting; our
artists are actually staining the pores of the natural stone
with the highest quality of specialty paints. Pricing for
the color application is based on the length of time it takes
our artist to paint an etched image. We base the cost @ $75
/hr. artist time. Size is not always a major factor in painting
time, complexity is. A custom quote, dependent upon the size
and intricacy of the image is required for each job, but generally
you can expect the etching costs to increase 30% to 50% for
colorization of the images. Appropriate sealants to protect
the colorized image are always applied after the painting
is complete. Black & White pieces also receive specialty
sealants. |

What
does laser etching cost?
(top) |
|
 |

General
pricing for etched products are based on three factors:
1) The square footage of the etched piece.
2) The type of substrate: Granite, Marble, Glass/Mirror, Metal,
etc.
3) Classic Black & White or Colorized finish of the Stone.
Color staining costs are generally 25% to 35% greater then
the black and white etchings.Black and White etchings on Absolute
Black Granite begin @ $190 /sq. ft. (One 12"x12"
tile).
Increasing the square footage will reduce the price proportionately
down to as little as $100 a sq. ft. for pieces over 100 sq.
ft.
Pure Black Marble begins @ $220 /sq. ft. (One 12"x12"
tile).
Increasing the square footage will reduce the price proportionately
down to as little as $145 a sq. ft. for pieces over 50 sq.
ft.
Compared to Granite, Marble takes twice as long to etch; therefore
the price for Marble is 20% higher than Granite.

Who
provides the materials? (top) |
|
 |
| |
In most
cases Aquarius provides the material, as we can guarantee
the quality of our etching on our tested stone. However, we
are certainly willing to use your material. A sample piece
of the material should be sent to us for testing to determine
if and how well the material will etch for your project.
In the event we use your product to etch on a discount will
be provided, generally speaking it is about $5.00 - $6.00
less per sq. foot for granite and marble tile. All other material
discounts would have to be determined based on type and quantities.

What
sizes are available? (top) |

When using tiles Aquarius can produce any size that you may
want. Our largest completed piece to date is an 8' tall x
32' long mural for Penn State University, completed on 18"x18"
tiles.
If using slabs of stone or single pieces of material we are
generally limited to 50" wide by 50" long. However,
depending on the image itself the length can be as long as
the material itself. We have completed single panel pieces
for shower doors over 6' long, and signage over 8' long.

What
is the durability of laser etched pieces?

Black
Granite is considered the 3rd hardest natural material known
to man, behind Diamonds and Rubies. Selected both for beauty
and strength, sculptors and architects have used granite
and marble for centuries. "The polished surface of
Granite has an erosion factor of less than 0.125 of an inch
per 1000 years outdoors. The estimated life of laser etchings
is 500+ years outdoors and for interior surfaces virtually
forever," Vytek Industrial Systems, Inc., the manufacture
of stone laser etching equipment.
Depending
on where and how your etching will be displayed will determine
our recommendation of substrate selection. For smaller works
requiring great detail marble proves phenomenal in its etching
abilities; however the stone will scratch if handled roughly
or exposed to harsh elements. Granite on the other hand,
is extremely durable and provides an excellent etching surface
for most applications. We highly suggest granite for all
larger etchings and pieces exposed to the outdoors as well
as for flooring applications. We also highly recommend that
all color pieces not have expsure to the sun or other UV
light sources, as UV light has been proven to degrade the
quality of paints and other materials over time. To learn
more about materials visit our materials section (click

How
do you care for and protect the etchings?
(top) |
|
 |
| |
Protective
Sealants
Before any client receives his or her etching all pieces
are properly protected to best fight against the elements,
including, oil and food staining, weathering, sun and more.
After months of thorough testing, we have selected the very
best in stone care protective products to help provide the
best in anti-staining, humidity and waterproofing protection,
UV degradation resistance*, heat and grease protection,
and skid resistance for outdoor flooring and commercial
concerns.
Although
marble, granite and other natural stone surfaces are thought
of as maintenance free, these surfaces do require proper
cleaning, protection and maintenance. Depending upon the
etched pieces you own, we may suggest re-application of
our sealant as often as twice per year for high traffic
areas. All natural stone surfaces, polished or unpolished,
are porous and can be stained by a variety of common elements.
*The
harsh affects of Ultra Violet (UV) light caused by sun exposure
and other UV producing light, have proven to degrade the
qualities of paints and other materials over time. It is
because of the powerful effects of UV light that Aquarius
Laser Etching & Design highly recommends all color stained
pieces not to have exposure to sun and or other UV producing
light. If pieces are to have sun exposure or UV producing
lights, we recommend minimizing this exposure as much as
possible. |

General
Cleaning Tips |
|
 |
| |
Proper
stone cleaning is simple. Clean your stone on a regular
basis with warm water and a clean, non-abrasive cloth, sponge
or mop. Sweep or dust all natural stone surfaces regularly
to remove loose soil and dust. Keeping your stone free of
dust and dry sandy soil will minimize the scratches and
wear-patterns that can develop from the everyday use of
stone. To help remove soils that normal dusting and damp
mops leave behind, we recommend using specifically formulated
neutral cleaners for natural stone. Please contact
us for recommendations of cleaning products for your
stone etchings.
Do not
make the mistake of using general household cleaners, protectants,
or polishes! Products that are not formulated specifically
for use on natural stone will do more harm than good. Bleach,
abrasives, ammonia, acid and alkaline based products will
damage natural stone. |

How
are pieces installed? (top) |
|
 |
| |
The
simple answer is that laser etchings done on granite, marble
and other stone can be installed by your local professional
tile installer through conventional tiling methods. For
these orders, we will provide installation specifications
for you and your contractor. This method covers installation
for home and office floor entryways, murals, bathroom shower
and kitchen walls, fireplace surrounds, backsplashes and
more.
However,
if you are considering a non-permanent installation, we
are happy to custom prepare your piece for hanging. The
framework is designed for strength and easy installation
onto a wall whether you intend to frame it, or display it
in its pure form. A simple mounting kit and instructions
will be provided. Yes, pieces can get heavy, but just like
a large flat screen or plasma televisions there is no problem
in wall mounting when done properly. Depending upon the
mounting method you can expect weight to be from 7-9 lbs.

|
 |
| |
What
is the average production time?
(top) |
|
 |
| |
Turn
around time is dependent on the amount of orders in house
at any particular time. Generally speaking, a project ranging
in size from 12"x12" to 2'x 3' will take 2- 4 weeks
to produce. 3'x 4' projects and larger will take approximately
3-6 weeks depending on colorizing and mounting specifications.
Depending on the destination, size and method of shipment,
our products can be delivered in 1-3 days rush and 4-10 days
standard delivery. |

| How
do you suggest lighting the stone etchings?(top) |
 |
| Typically
a broad-based light source is best for lighting our etchings.
We suggest either incandescent or halogen lighting. The halogen
lighting cast the purest white light; however halogens do
generate a lot of heat. To test the heat from your lights,
put your hand between the art and the light source. If you
can feel heat from the light, it could potentially damage
coloring overtime. Fluorescent lighting is not recommend,
they distort the colors and gives off high levels of ultraviolet
rays that can eventually damage the colors. |
|
 |
| Track
lighting is the most flexible and usually the least expensive
way to light our stone etchings. Recessed lighting is also
commonly found in newer homes and is also a nice way to feature
the etchings. Because reflection and glare can be a challenge
with the natural sheen of our stone etchings we suggest placing
the light at roughly a 30-degree angle to the work. |
|
 |
| The
general rule for accenting a piece of art is to light it three
times brighter than the rest of the room. |
